| An
immersive look at story and the universal character of black historic
figures through the prism of Joseph Campbell's Hero Cycle or
"monomyth." Via trips and workshops, Richmond,
VA middle-school children uncover the dynamics of story, the universal
nature of the hero's journey and mythology, how heroes are often merely
ordinary people called on to do extraordinary things. The film follows
as they examine contemporary films and hero imagery and that of ancient
mythology. They explore the power of art and music as
storytelling vehicles and discover the 4 simple requirements of a
heroic life and journey. This is a program launched by the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia and Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond.
