"I'd pee on a sparkplug if I thought it would help"

Remember the above line from "War Games," ad-libbed by a General as all hell was about to break loose?

Virginia's Hampton Roads Daily Press along with the Virginian-Pilot is the hometown paper of the state's Militaryopolis--Fort Eustis, Fort Monroe, Langley AFB, NASA, Norfolk Naval Station and Shipyard, and Oceana N.A.S and lots more. Quite surprising to see the paper, and Scheid, come forward with this. An indicator of the acceptable frustration levels.
FORT EUSTIS -- Months before the United States invaded Iraq in 2003, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld forbade military strategists from developing plans for securing a post-war Iraq, the retiring commander of the Army Transportation Corps said Thursday.

In fact, said Brig. Gen. Mark Scheid, Rumsfeld said "he would fire the next person" who talked about the need for a post-war plan.
Scheid goes on to be quite candid (he's 3 weeks short) and says, somewhat wanly, he's heard other retired stars call for Rummy to resign. "Everybody has a right to their opinion," he said. "But what good did it do?"

Scheid's bewildered quotes about the run-up and post-war non-planning at CENTCOM go downhill from there. If this is what E-3s are reading in their paper... Depressing.
