Kerry's barnstorming sparks talk of a run
So says The Boston Globe
No.
NO. Americans want a do-over, but not of 2004. They are chastened by the last 6 years. They feel slightly-to-very silly about the metrics they used to elect the last president, twice. They question the "gut" that had them do so. They do not regret not electing Kerry though. In these touchy times, volatility is the last thing we need. Gore is a "safe" choice, if he keeps his loosy-goosey. Not timid "Safe," familiar and Pepto Bismol "Safe." They know he knows the job, unlike the current guy. They know he's got brains, which, before made them slightly intimidated. Well, today, they're praying for brains. Today, even Adlai Stevenson could get elected.
Which brings us to the other, uh, leftover. Hillary Clinton. No, again. Double no. We're looking at the beginnings of a Republican Party that's going to be in Cannibal-mode for several years to come. If Clinton runs, she'll be a gift. Like a crash-cart combined with an all-is-forgiven FTD bouquet, causing Republicans to take their teeth out of each other's necks and focus on the only "enemy" more pressing than sorting out the deep cognitive dissonance within the party.
John Kerry and Hillary Clinton would be walking, talking get-out-of-purgatory-free cards for the Republican Party and it's frothiest voters.
The rule goes, when your opponent is self destructing, don't interfere. Well, the corrollary is: When your enemy is dueling to the death over it's own morality and demons, don't offer an excuse to stop. Don't offer them their Dream Ghoul.
